ChatGPT Rumored to Cause Death to 10,000 Startups

by Danielle McLean

Introduction:

In the ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence, OpenAI has made headlines once again with its latest update to ChatGPT. The update promises to revolutionize the way we interact with AI, offering a range of new features and capabilities. In this blog post, we'll dive into the key takeaways from the latest ChatGPT update and explore how it might impact the AI landscape.

Section 1: ChatGPT's New Multimodal Abilities

ChatGPT's latest update introduces a multimodal approach, allowing various functions like interacting with PDs, data analytics, DALL-E 3, and browsing within a single chat. This update aims to enhance user experience by eliminating the need for separate chat threads for different tasks.

You know how you had to toggle between plugins, data analytics, browse, etc. before like this:

Well, pretty soon you don't have to do that anymore. ChatGPT is rolling out this feature as we speak which is great for people like me who hate toggling between features, but not so great for startups building some of those features.

Section 2: Reading PDFs and Limitations

While ChatGPT's new abilities are impressive, there are some limitations to consider. There's a reported limitation where ChatGPT refuses to process more than 1,000 characters of a 20,000-word piece, raising questions about its capabilities. Despite these limitations, the update offers practical applications, such as generating infographics and accessing live data, like weather conditions, through browsing and image generation features. The ability to provide reference images to DALL-E 3 is a significant improvement, simplifying a previously annoying process.

Section 3: Valuation and Investment in AI

OpenAI's valuation is making waves in the AI industry, with a staggering $86 billion valuation, surpassing the valuations of several prominent companies. This highlights its significance and impact. Google's investment of $2 billion in Anthropic, a potential rival to OpenAI, is a noteworthy development. Amazon had previously invested $1.5 billion in the same company. This investment raises questions about Google's strategy, especially considering its upcoming model, Gemini, set to release soon, and the potential competition in the AI industry in 2024.

Conclusion: The Future of AI

OpenAI's ChatGPT update is undoubtedly a significant step forward in the AI field. While it brings exciting new capabilities, it also reveals some limitations that the AI community will need to address. The competition and investments from tech giants like Google and Amazon further underscore the growing importance of AI in our lives. As we look to the future, 2024 promises to be a pivotal year in the world of AI, with various players vying for dominance. The AI landscape is evolving rapidly, and it's an exciting time for both developers and users alike. We'll be keeping a close eye on these developments as AI continues to shape the way we live and work.
